Firefighters worked to contain the Tamarack Fire in California as the blaze grew to 50,129 acres (about 78 square miles) on July 23 and crossed state lines into Nevada.

The fire was sparked by a lightning strike in the Mokelumne Wilderness in Alpine County on July 4, officials said.

UC Davis Fire Department in California released footage showing the Yolo County strike team entering a housing development to protect it from the fire on July 21.
