French Boats Gather at St Helier Harbor in Jersey Fishing Dispute

A line of French fishing boats was seen outside the harbor in St Helier, Jersey, on May 6, amid a dispute over post-Brexit fishing rights in the Channel.

Video shared by Deacon Wilson shows a number of boats beyond the harbor walls.

Two Royal Navy ships, HMS Severn and HMS Tamar, were deployed to Jersey on the evening of May 5 “to conduct maritime security patrols”, the UK’s Ministry of Defence said.

French fishermen say their rights have been unfairly restricted by a licence system introduced last week, which requires French boats to show they have a history of fishing in Jersey’s waters, the BBC said. Credit: Deacon Wilson via Storyful
