The National Weather Service issued a flood warning for Pullman, Washington, on Tuesday, April 9, after heavy rain submerged roadways in the area.

Video posted to Instagram from Pullman shows cars pulling through sections of roads covered with inches of water. Water can also be seen bubbling up from under a manhole cover.

The City of Pullman asked Washington Gov Jay Inslee to issue a state of emergency due to the flooding. Hundreds were evacuated after the swollen Palouse River overran its banks, local media reported. The flooding also prompted a water rescue where the fire department used construction equipment to help a man escape a flooded home, video shows. Credit: @codied via Storyful
