A courthouse in Mason, Texas, that was built in 1909 was ravaged by fire late on February 4.

This footage by Robert Gotcher shows the building engulfed in flames. “Gut-wrenching to see it gone,” Gotcher wrote on Facebook, noting that he was married there.

Local news outlet KXAN said the fire broke out at around 10 pm and by 1:30 am the only thing remaining was the “outer rock wall structure.”

Mason County Judge Jerry Bearden told the outlet the fire was a “terrible tragedy for people in the county,” adding that the courthouse was “the focal point of our community.”

The building was being prepared for renovations at the time of the fire, according to KXAN. Credit: Robert Gotcher via Storyful
