Members of Hootie & the Blowfish took their hometown pride international as they celebrated a win for the University of South Carolina Gamecocks football team on Saturday, October 12, before a show in London.
Just before Darius Rucker and the titular fish stepped on stage to perform at the Eventim Apollo, the band, which formed in Columbia in the mid-1980s, gathered backstage to watch the Gamecocks secure a 20-17 win over the Georgia Bulldogs.
The bandmates met at the University of South Carolina, according to the band’s website. It was through “endless gigs at frat parties” and shows at local bars in Columbia that Hootie & the Blowfish began to build its fan base.
