Large smoke plumes wafted from the McFarland fire burning in Shasta County, California, as the blaze grew to 15,565 acres and was 5 percent contained on August 2.

The lightning-sparked McFarland Fire began on Thursday, July 29, according to officials, and prompted evacuations for the town of Wildwood, California, on Monday.
