Japanese officials issued heat-stroke alerts for several cities as temperatures across the country soared on June 29.

Temperatures in some prefectures had exceeded 36 degrees Celsius, or 97 Fahrenheit, by 11 am local time, NHK reported.

The heatwave is the worst the country has experienced since record keeping started in 1875, BBC Japan reported.

This footage was captured in Ichinomiya, and shows a temperature reading of 40 degrees. While the official high for the city on Wednesday was reported as 38 degrees, the “RealFeel” was reported to be 41 degrees in high humidity, according to AccuWeather. A felt high of 43, or 110 Fahrenheit, was predicted for Thursday. Credit: Anonymous via Storyful
