'Keep Lacing Up Those Gloves' - Budding Boxer Gets Gift From Hero

Budding boxer Lexie Starbuck got the seal of approval from her hero, Irish fighter Katie Taylor, on January 14, as the champion pugilist shared a heartwarming video of her young fan.

“Quick shout out to Lexie Starbuck. Thank you so much for all your support. Keep lacing up those gloves,” Taylor tweeted as she shared footage taken on Christmas morning, 2019, showing Starbuck receiving a boxing glove signed by Taylor herself.

An overwhelmed Starbuck weeps with joy in the video, and her mother, Catherine Webster, explained to Storyful, “Lexie has been a massive fan of hers from the day I showed her a video of Katie Taylor winning the [Olympic] gold medal.”

Webster, who is based in Kent, England, said her uncle, James Duffy, personally contacted Taylor to ask for a signed glove. “Leading up to Christmas I asked her what she wanted from Santa and she said she did not want toys or anything apart from a signed glove from Katie Taylor so I knew I had to make this happen.” Credit: Cathrine Webster via Storyful
