Lava poured from the Cumbre Vieja volcano on La Palma on Saturday, October 23, following the partial collapse of its main cone.

As of Friday, at least 2,129 structures had been destroyed by lava flows covering 889 hectares (roughly 3.4 square miles), according to the European Union’s Copernicus satellite program. Up to 50 additional homes in the vicinity of La Laguna were ordered evacuated this week as lava flows advanced in the area.

Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez visited La Palma on Saturday, his fifth trip to the beleaguered island since eruptions began on September 19, according to local media.
