More than one million customers were left without power as weather warnings remained in effect across New Jersey on Tuesday, August 4, after Tropical Storm Isaias pummeled the East Coast.

Governor Phil Murphy tweeted that more than 1.3 million electricity outages had been reported, adding that “some of these outages may last for a few days due to the severity of the storm. We are working closely with the utilities to restore power as quickly and safely as possible.”

A flash flood watch was in effect across the state as of 2.45 pm EDT, with all public transportation suspended.

Trees were downed and parts of major highways closed, according to local reports, as strong winds swept through the region.
