A UK politician was stopped from speaking in a parliamentary debate in the House of Commons on January 14 as his video link made him “sound like a Dalek”, the villain in TV series Doctor Who, according to the Deputy Speaker of the House of Commons.

Scott Mann, Conservative MP for North Cornwall, was due to speak in a debate on the effect of COVID-19 on dental services in the UK when a technical issue distorted his audio.

As Mann spoke, Deputy Speaker Nigel Evans stopped him and said “Scott, sorry, you sound like a Dalek and I don’t mean that unkindly.”

After Evans called upon other MPs to speak, Mann was able to contribute to the debate without his headphones. Credit: UK Parliament via Storyful
