Northern Lights Shimmer Green and Purple Over Snowy Alberta

A Canadian photographer captured the Northern Lights shimmering over the Canadian province of Alberta on April 17.

Siv Heang Tav, who shot this footage, told Storyful she and two friends “who had never seen the aurora” journeyed to the mountains near Lower Kananaskis Lake in Alberta’s southwest, following strong auroral-viewing forecasts.

“We had to make our way through waist-deep snow to access the lake,” she said. “The band of aurora was so wide that it barely fit in my wide angle lens.” Credit: Siv Heang Tav via Storyful
