Police Monitor Long Line at Milwaukee Polling Station as Voters Turn Out Early to Cast Their Ballots

Long lines formed outside Wisconsin polling stations on April 7 as voters waited to cast their ballots in the Democratic presidential primary amid the coronavirus pandemic, local media reported.

Hundreds of voters, many wearing masks, stood outside in lines, maintaining a distance of several feet from one another.

Gov Tony Evers tried to suspend Tuesday’s Presidential Primary and reschedule for June due to the coronavirus, but the state Supreme Court ruled it must go ahead as planned.

The US Supreme Court also reversed a lower court ruling that had given voters six additional days to return absentee ballots, ruling that only those postmarked by Tuesday and arriving by April 13 should be counted.

Cities have reduced the number of polling sites open, including in Milwaukee, where only five voting sites were open.

In this video, taken outside Riverside High School in Milwaukee, voters can be seen practicing social distancing while they waited in a line that wound around several streets.
