Police Relocate Ducklings Hatched Too Close to Road in Central Germany

A German police station moved a family of ducks that had nested on its property because officials were concerned the family’s eight ducklings were too close to the road, according to a police statement posted May 26.

Footage uploaded by the Polizei Thüringen shows a German policeman carrying the Erfurt station’s “godchildren” – a box of chirping ducklings – followed by a seemingly displeased mama duck as they are escorted to a safer place on the property.

According to Google Translate, the Polizei Thüringen captioned the video: “Unfortunately, the choice of the nursery was somewhat unhappy. The duck mom had chosen a very well-guarded meadow right next to the parking lots of our patrol cars as the children’s room. So close to the road, it seemed a bit too delicate for our godchildren … we immediately grabbed the young family.”

They continued: “On a green area next to the department we built a new domicile … There are no flashing patrol cars all the time, but they are still within reach. The duck mom protested loudly against the police measure, but ultimately she was also very fond of the new environment.” Credit: Polizei Thüringen via Storyful
