At least four people were killed and 22 injured after a Russian rocket struck a dormitory in the Slobid district of Kharkiv the morning of August 18, Ukraine’s public broadcaster said.

This footage published by Suspilne shows the ongoing rescue effort to retrieve residents trapped under the rubble of the four-story dormitory. Several people remained under the rubble, said Oleksiy Chaplygin, a rescuer on site who spoke with Suspilne.

“Last night was one of the most tragic for Kharkiv Oblast during the entire war,” said Oleg Synegubov, head of the Kharkiv regional state administration. “Peaceful sleeping areas with civilians once again came under the attack of Russian terrorists.”

Hours earlier, another dormitory in Kharkiv was struck, resulting in the death of seven people and injuring 17, including an 11-year old, officials said.

Chaplygin told Suspilne that one of the Slobid residents who lived on the third floor was found unconscious on the first floor after the collapse of the structure. Credit: Suspilne Kharkiv via Storyful
