The death toll from the impact of Tropical Storm Ana on Malawi rose to 20 on January 27, the country’s Department of Disaster Management Affairs reported.

On Thursday, Malawi declared a state of disaster in districts impacted by the storm.

This footage was published by the Malawi Red Cross Society, and is described as showing flooding in the country’s Chikwawa district. Speaking in the footage, a representative of the organization, Cecilia Banda, says that Red Cross Society members who were delivering aid to affected residents of Chikwawa became stuck in the area due to the impact of the storm. She said that electricity in the area had been cut off since January 24.

According to the European Commission, more than 10,000 people in the district had been displaced and were staying at “accommodation sites.” At least three deaths were reported in the district, according to local media. Credit: Malawi Red Cross Society via Storyful
