Robin Swoops Across Garden to Eat from Girl's Hand

A 13-year-old from Staffordshire, England, was gifted a rare experience on May 16 when a robin swooped across her garden to eat from her hand.

Since the onset of the coronavirus pandemic and government-mandated restrictions in the UK, Tamsin Morton has developed a relationship with a robin that was frequenting her garden.

Then, as the robin slowly developed trust in the teenager, it began eating suet pellets from her hand.

“Tamsin hasn’t seen her friends for nine weeks and the joy this friendship has brought her is immeasurable,” said Elizabeth Morton, Tamsin’s mother.

“She is the kindest, most caring individual you could ever meet and I think animals sense that.”

When speaking to Storyful, Elizabeth Morton also explained that the robin in question, who has been given the name Sparrowhawk, collects food for its round.

She added, “Now Sparrowhawk sits on her hand for three or four seconds, eats what it needs and feeds its baby in front of us. Whilst other robins work in pairs to raise their round, it looks like this is a single parent and it seems like Tamsin’s help is all the more precious for that reason.” Credit: Elizabeth Morton via Storyful
