A record thirty named storms have formed during the 2020 Atlantic hurricane season. This week, The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration released satellite imagery showing the storms, ahead of the season’s end on November 30.

Arthur, the first named storm of 2020, formed in May, before the season had officially started. The most recent storm, Hurricane Iota, heavily damaged areas in Nicaragua and Honduras after making landfall in Central America in November. Iota struck close to where Hurricane Theta landed just weeks earlier, delivering a devastating double blow.

The US Gulf Coast was also repeatedly impacted. Five named storms made landfall in Louisiana, including Hurricane Laura, one of the most powerful storms to ever hit the state. A total of twelve named storms hit the US coast this year. Credit: NOAA via Storyful
