Search and Rescue Efforts Continue in Florida After Destruction From Storm Ian

Tropical Storm Ian crossed through Florida, threatening South Carolina’s coast with hurricane conditions, on Thursday, September 29, according to the National Hurricane Center.

President Biden approved a disaster declaration due to the damage caused by the storm in Florida.

Federal Emergency Management Agency and National Guard emergency responders supported search and rescue operations in response to the storm, according to Florida Gov Ron DeSantis.

Officials reported more than 2.5 million power outages as a result of storm damage.

Videos posted by OCFire Rescue on Thursday show fire rescue crews working to evacuate a nursing home in flooded Orlando.

The National Weather Service reported that the storm was expected to intensify into a hurricane again by Thursday evening.
