Seoul Residents Get False-Alarm Evacuation Alerts Following North's Failed Satellite Launch

Sirens were heard in Seoul, South Korea, early on May 31, as locals were sent what proved to be false-alarm evacuation alerts following a failed surveillance satellite launch attempt by North Korea.

The warnings came as North Korea launched a “military reconnaissance satellite”, which fell into the sea following what the state news agency said was “an abnormal startup of the engine”.

According to Yonhap, messages told residents to prepare for evacuation, before a follow-up message retracted the “erroneous issuance”.
