Shutters Come Down in Jerusalem as Israel Locks Down for Second Time

Israel entered its second coronavirus lockdown on September 18, the eve of Rosh Hashana, the Jewish New Year, and the start of the High Holy Days.

The three-week lockdown will confine people to within a kilometer of their homes at a time usually associated with family gatherings.

Social distancing and limits on numbers will be enforced at places of worship.

Israel’s first lockdown in spring saw COVID numbers contained in the country, but cases have spiked in recent weeks, with more than 5,000 recorded on several days.
