A church in the west Pennsylvania town of New Kensington sustained significant damage as a suspected tornado passed through in the early hours of April 8.

Images shared by the town’s fire department show major wind damage to the roof of St Mary of Czestochowa church on Kenneth Avenue, and debris piled around it.

The fire department said its five companies responded to St Mary’s church, and “worked quickly to deploy salvage covers inside of the sanctuary, and control relevant utilities.”

The church was one of several structures in the town assessed for storm damage, the department said.
