A surfer was pulled to safety by the Westpac Rescue Helicopter after being caught in danger during rough conditions off the coast of Skennars Head, in northern New South Wales, on May 25.

“A surfer in distress in the heavy swell was winched by a NSW Ambulance Critical Care Paramedic and transferred to a waiting ambulance on the headland,” a statement on the Westpac Rescue Helicopter Facebook page read.

This footage shows a paramedic and the surfer being pulled from a headland as waves crash against the rocks beneath them. New South Wales had experienced multiple days of huge swells, with surfers braving waves several meters high in Sydney and other locations. Credit: Sharne Wolff via Storyful
