An Australian diver captured the “incredible” moment a stargazer fish stole another stargazer’s hiding spot in the sand, while filming underwater off the coast of the Mornington Peninsula.

Posting the footage to Instagram, keen photographer Jules Casey wrote in the video’s caption that she “couldn’t believe” the fish was trying to bury itself in the exact same spot as another stargazer.

In the video, the stargazer that’s been uprooted goes on to bury itself in a different hiding spot as two pygmy leatherjacket fish swim over to, as Casey puts it, “investigate what all the fuss is about.”

“At the very end the two pygmy leatherjackets look at each other as if to say ‘where did that go?!!’ One even touched the ground to check that it was solid,” Caey wrote.

According to Britannica.com, stargazers “habitually bury themselves” to hunt.

Casey often posts footage of what she sees below the waves at Port Phillip Bay to her OneBreathDiver Instagram account, where she has over 90,000 followers.
