The Windy Fire burned on 40.7 square miles (26,051 acres) on September 21 in Tulare County, California, with five percent containment, authorities reported.

As of the morning of September 21, 1,136 fire personnel were working on the Windy Fire, which started on September 9, when lightning hit the area.

Footage from Saturday, September 18, shows thick clouds of smoke over the Sequoia National Park.
