Timelapse footage shot in London, Kentucky, shows a halo surrounding the moon on the night of Saturday, February 4.

According to NASA, a lunar halo is caused by ice crystals in the sky. “Because most of the crystals have a similar elongated hexagonal shape, light entering one crystal face and exiting through the opposing face refracts 22 degrees, which corresponds to the radius of the Moon Halo,” NASA explains.
