One of two elderly birds stolen in the early hours of November 29 from Fresno Chaffee Zoo in California, has been recovered as of December 1, the zoo said, as it released security-camera footage of the suspected thief.

“Security footage shows someone entering the Australian Asian Aviary at Fresno Chaffee Zoo at approximately 4.30 am,” wrote the zoo in a press release. “The person appears to cut the lock from the aviary doors, capture two birds, and exit with them in a duffel bag. Both birds are long-term residents of the zoo and of advanced age.”

According to a Facebook post by the zoo, the Nicobar pigeon, known as “Old Man Nicobar,” was returned on November 30. As of the afternoon of December 1, Charlie, a critically endangered lesser sulphur-crested cockatoo, was still missing. Credit: Fresno Chaffee Zoo via Storyful
