President Joe Biden condemned the deadly shooting at a Donald Trump rally in Pennsylvania, telling Americans that US politics must never “be a killing field,” on Sunday, July 14.

Trump was wounded in the ear after a gunman opened fire at the rally in Butler, Pennsylvania on Saturday, he confirmed on Truth Social.

One spectator was killed, and two others injured in the shooting, the Secret Service said.

In an Oval Office address, Biden urged Americans to “take a step back” and warned that “political rhetoric in this country has gotten very heated.”

“We cannot, we must not, go down this road in America … there is no place in America for this kind of violence, for any violence, ever.”

“Politics must never be a literal battlefield and God forbid, a killing field.”

Biden confirmed he had spoken to Trump the night before.

“I’m grateful he’s doing well and Jill and I keep him and his family in our prayers.”

The motive of the shooter was still unknown, Biden said.

“We don’t know his opinions or affiliations. We don’t know whether he had help or support or if he communicated with anyone else. Law enforcement professionals, as I speak, are investigating those questions,” he said. Credit: The White House via Storyful
