Local St Vincent resident Kirk Morris captured drone footage that shows ash-covered rooftops as well as volcanic material flowing along a riverbed on the island on Monday, April 12, amid eruption activity of the Soufriere volcano, officials said.

After the drone glides over the ash-covered residential area, the video shows the Rabacca Dry River in Georgetown churning with a mixture of debris, pyroclastic material, mud, and water – or “lahar” as it’s known.

Morris told Storyful locals typically mine the dry river for building materials.

The National Emergency Management Organisation of St Vincent and the Grenadines urged residents not to gather near the river to view the pyroclastic flows, saying it was “extremely dangerous.” Credit: Kirk Morris via Storyful
