The lower Darling River brought water back to Pooncarie, New South Wales, on April 7 for the first time in over a year since drought plagued the area, according to Water NSW.

The town of Pooncarie had been forced to truck in water during the 18-month drought, reports said.

“The Barwon-Darling flow has made its way to Pooncarie in the south-west corner of NSW. This is a journey in excess of 900km from when we started following the flow from Mungindi on the QLD/NSW border,” wrote Water NSW on Twitter.
