after receding floodwaters left them stranded in a stream

:: Villa Tunari, Bolivia

The dolphins, a mother, and her seven-month-old calf had been stranded in a stream in Villa Tunari, Cochabamba, for 40 days following severe flooding in the region.

The rescue operation involved a coordinated effort by rescuers and environmentalists who used nets to capture the dolphins. After a health check, the dolphins were carefully transported by van to the Isiboro River in the Bolivian Amazon, where they were released back into their natural habitat.

The dolphins had been swept into the stream by the floods and, due to the reduced water flow, could not return to the main river.
