A teenage carjacker’s attempt to escape custody was foiled on January 5 after police located a car key in his pocket, linking him to a stolen car, a violent incident and other offences.

Police reported the teenager, an 18-year-old from Carina, attempted to steal a car at Sunnybank Hills and stabbed a man in the process of stealing another car, when the initial attempt failed.

With another male, the offender fled the scene and the pair were involved in a car crash, evading police and stole a white car from Dundowran, which was later involved in a petrol drive-off.

Police said they located the white car stolen from Dundowran, abandoned in Brookfield, at about 5pm on January 5.

They then tracked one of the males to a ride-sharing service on Manly Rd, where the passenger was intercepted. Officers discovered he had keys for the stolen vehicle in his pocket.
