A vehicle was left half-submerged by flash flooding on a road in Neptune City, New Jersey, on Friday, September 29, as a major rainstorm soaked the wider region.

Footage from Carly Surmonte shows a BMW sports utility vehicle (SUV) stranded at the corner of Highway 35 and 3rd Avenue.

A flash flood warning was in effect for Neptune City and other parts of Monmouth County until 7 pm Friday.

State officials advised residents to travel with caution and to “never drive around barricades or through flooded roadways.”

The storm also lashed New York City. Other videos verified by Storyful show debris floating through the streets of Brooklyn, and cars driving through swamped streets.

New York City’s Metropolitan Transportation Authority said the deluge had “severely disrupted” its network, and advised New Yorkers to stay home, while New York Gov Kathy Hochul declared a state of emergency. Credit: Carly Surmonte via Storyful
