California's Windy Fire Engulfs Trees

Evacuations were ordered for communities near California’s Sequoia National Forest late on September 22 as the Windy Fire began to threaten the Camp Nelson area.

The Windy Fire was an estimated 36,249 acres (about 57 square miles) and 6 percent contained, according to firefighting authorities.

The fire moved into Long Meadow Grove, damaging a sequoia tree known as the Bench Tree, and threatening others, the Los Angeles Times reported.
