Demonstrations took place in Paris after the French government narrowly survived a vote of no confidence on Monday night, March 20, sparked by last week’s decision to push through contentious pension reforms without a parliamentary vote.

Footage by Twitter user @Laawnik shows a fire on a trash-strewn street near a damaged bus stop in Paris’s Bastille neighborhood. Crowds can also be seen gathered near the Place de la Bastille.

Citing police, Le Monde reported at least 171 people were arrested on Monday and early Tuesday.

French media also reported large-scale demonstrations in other cities across France.
