At least 15 people were arrested in Philadelphia late on Tuesday, September 26, after juveniles and young adults ransacked businesses in the city, local media reported, citing police.

According to NBC10, acting police commissioner John Stanford said the looting was unrelated to an earlier protest held after charges were dismissed against an officer who shot and killed a man during a traffic stop in August.

“What we had tonight was a bunch of criminal opportunists take advantage of a situation and making an attempt to destroy our city,” Stanford said, according to ABC6.

On Wednesday morning, Philadelphia Mayor Jim Kenney thanked police for their “swift response” to Tuesday night’s “criminal activity.”
