Smoke from the Calf Canyon/Hermits Peak fire loomed over hills near Mora, New Mexico, on May 2.

Fire officials reported the combined Calf Canyon and Hermits Peak fire spanned 120,653 acres (about 188 square miles), mostly in the Santa Fe National Forest, and was at 20 percent containment as of May 2.

Video filmed by member of the New Mexico House of Representatives Roger Montoya, who said he filmed it while returning to Mora after spending the night in the Penasco evacuation center, shows a haze of smoke.

KRQE reported the wildfire has overwhelmed evacuation centers in San Miguel and Mora counties as local residents have been forced away from their homes for nearly two weeks.
