Police in Sussex, England, said a 17-year-old boy had been arrested after a football club’s defibrillator was vandalised in the early hours of June 13, hours after a high-profile use of the device on a professional footballer.

The importance of access to defibrillators was brought home in the most dramatic of circumstances on June 12, as Christian Eriksen collapsed on the field during the Euro 2020 game between Denmark and Finland.

All the more shocking, then, was video released by Buxted FC showing the vandalism of the club’s defibrillator mere hours later.

Club chairman Richard Turner told the BBC he was “disgusted” by the incident.

The club asked anyone with information to contact the Sussex Police.

Denmark team doctor Morten Boeson confirmed Eriksen suffered a cardiac arrest before being resuscitated. “He was gone,” Boesen told media, “but we got him back after one defib.” Credit: Buxted FC via Storyful
