Arizona Woman Witnesses Riveting Snake Wrestling Match in Her Backyard

A resident of Green Valley, Arizona, captured footage of two snakes entangled in a backyard encounter on September 12.

This footage filmed by Latasha Allen, who said it was taken behind her backyard fence in the neighborhood of Los Arroyos, shows the duo braided together. “The snakes continued this behavior for over an hour before finally moving into the trees,” she told Storyful.

According to Australian Department of Sustainability and Environment scientist Nick Clemann, people often mistake such activity as mating behavior, but male snakes engage in “ritualized wrestling bouts,” the Herald Sun reported. Credit: Latasha Allen via Storyful
