Brawling Cricket Fans Draw Boos From Crowd at Headingley

An England cricket supporters’ club took to Twitter on Sunday, June 26, to condemn some “unsavoury behaviour” that was witnessed in the crowd for England’s Test against New Zealand at Headingley.

Video taken by Alex Buxton shows a brawl breaking out in the crowd, which Buxton said may have been sparked by some spilled beer.

“Before the fight, there was a big beer snake which fell apart,” Buxton told Storyful. “Then people were throwing the beer cups everywhere, one of which hit the man in the Gascoigne shirt.”

As the punches continue to be thrown in Buxton’s footage, the crowd nearby soon voice their disapproval.

Buxton described how one man “decided to pick a fight with the other guy. After the fight, [he] was escorted out of the ground by police,” he said.

The supporters’ club known as the Barmy Army tweeted, “We remind anyone attending the cricket that certain behaviours aren’t tolerated among the Barmy Army … Any cup throwing or violent behaviour has zero place at a cricket ground.”
