Competitive eater Joey Chestnut placed an animal rights protester in a brief chokehold during an annual Independence Day hot dog eating contest in Coney Island, New York, on July 4.

Video recorded by Sifat Razwan shows Chestnut, who’s ranked first in the world at competitive eating by Major League Eating, getting shoved mid-bite by a masked protestor during the Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest.

Chestnut promptly resumes eating as two other masked protesters appear in the background.

An animal rights collective, Direct Action Everywhere (DxE), posted a clip of the incident to social media, stating that it was their protestors who disrupted the event.

Chestnut went on to win the contest, clinching his 15th Mustard Belt.
