Five men have been charged after allegedly orchestrating a “black flight” from Papua New Guinea to Australia, carrying 52 kilos of methamphetamine on board, police said.

The Australian Federal Police alleged the men were members of a “transnational serious organised crime” syndicate and that their cargo was worth more than AU$15 million.

Police said the men were met at the Monto airstrip in Queensland by officers, who said they seized five duffle bags from the plane.

The five men were charged with importing commercial quantities of border-controlled drugs. Four appeared before Bundaberg Magistrates Court on Wednesday, March 22. A fifth suspect was due to appear on March 23. Credit: NSW Police Force via Storyful
