French fishing boats entered the port of St Helier, Jersey, on the morning of May 6, data from MarineTraffic showed, amid tensions between the UK and France over post-Brexit fishing rights.

This footage shows the French-flagged vessels briefly entering the port, before withdrawing a distance.

French media reported the vessels departed from the ports of Barneville-Carteret, Breton, and Granville.

Two Royal Navy ships, HMS Severn and HMS Tamar, were deployed to Jersey on the evening of May 5 “to conduct maritime security patrols”, the UK’s Ministry of Defence said.

In response, the French patrol vessel Athos was deployed to the area. At 10 am on May 6, the Athos was patrolling outside Jersey’s Exclusive Economic Zone. Credit: MarineTraffic via Storyful
