The fast-moving Glass Fire continued to spread through parts of northern Napa Valley, California, on Monday, September 28, destroying structures and prompting thousands of evacuations, fire officials said.

The fire, the cause of which remained under investigation, began at around 6 am on Sunday morning and had spread to 11,000 acres and remained at zero percent containment on Monday morning.

In an update on Monday, Cal Fire said two additional fires started overnight and merged with the Glass Fire, adding that firefighters faced “strong and gusty offshore winds, low humidity, and dry fuels” as they continued their efforts to contain the fire on Monday.

“The fire has been at a dangerous rate of spread and has expanded into Sonoma County,” Cal Fire said.
