Media crews rushed to evacuate a Gaza tower housing press offices and civilians, moments before it was destroyed by Israeli airstrikes on May 15.

In a video posted to Facebook by Palestinian photojournalist Atia Darwish, camera crews and journalists can be seen moving broadcast equipment into an elevator as they try to leave the building.

Executive editor of the Associated Press Sally Buzbee called for an independent investigation into the destruction of the tower, while media watchdog Reporters Without Borders asked the International Criminal Court to determine whether the strike constituted war crimes.

The Israel Defense Forces said the tower contained “Hamas military intelligence assets” and that it had given advance warning to civilians to evacuate the building before destroying it using a military fighter jet. Credit: Atia Darwish via Storyful
