The CEO of Ofgem, Britain’s independent energy regulator, was reassuring lawmakers of the country’s energy supply when the lights in the room he was speaking from turned off on September 22.

Speaking to the Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy Committee, Jonathan Brearley said: “We have one of the most secure and resilient systems in the world…we have a resilient electricity system.”

A short while later, he had to leave his seat to turn the lights back on, explaining that they were “movement sensitive lights…just to reassure the committee.”
