California locals lined roads near Rancho Cucamonga as the remains of 20-year-old Marine Lance Corporal Dylan Merola passed by in a procession on Tuesday, September 21.

Video shared by Michael Francisco shows several people, some holding flags, awaiting the motorcade on Tuesday as night fell on Interstate 10.

Francisco told Storyful that he and his wife, the daughter of a Marine veteran herself, organized a caravan with other members of their off-road group to “turn out and show respect.”

KNBC reported that “thousands” turned out to pay their respects to Merola, a Rancho Cucamonga local, whose casket was draped in an American flag and carried through the streets of his hometown in a black hearse.
