Demonstrations continued across multiple French cities after the government narrowly survived a vote of no-confidence on Monday, March 20, sparked by the decision to force through pension reforms without a parliamentary vote.

Footage by Twitter user @Bismuthback captured scenes in Lyon, where at least nine people were arrested after stand-offs by police.

Local authorities in Lyon urged residents to remain vigilant after “a group of violent individuals” threw projectiles at officers.

The vote of no confidence, tabled by centrist MPs, fell nine votes short of the 287 needed to pass. The controversial bill to raise the age of retirement from 62 to 64 is set to become law. Credit: @Bismuthback via Storyful
