People were seen on the streets of Khartoum, Sudan’s capital city, on October 25, amid what the country’s information ministry described as a “military coup”.

Prime Minister Abdalla Hamdok was arrested by a “force from the army”, the ministry added, and taken to an “unknown location.”

This footage, filmed in the Al-Remila area of the city, shows a large number of people gathered on the street. Plumes of smoke can be seen in the distance.

Volker Perthes, the United Nation’s Special Representative to Sudan, said he was “deeply concerned about reports of an ongoing coup and attempts to undermine Sudan’s political transition.”

He added: “The reported detentions of the Prime Minister, government officials, and politicians are unacceptable.” Credit: Al Lamab Nasir Resistance Committee via Storyful
