Mourners paused on the shoulder of a California freeway on Tuesday evening, September 21, as a procession passed carrying the body of 20-year-old Marine Lance Corporal Dylan Merola, who was killed in Afghanistan in a suicide bombing on August 26.

Video streamed live to Facebook by Marcos Benitez captured the procession passing by on Tuesday evening. He said he was on the westbound side of the 210 Freeway in Rancho Cucamonga.

KNBC reported that “thousands” turned out to pay their respects to the Rancho Cucamonga local, whose casket was draped in an American flag and carried through the streets of his hometown in a black hearse.
